What an honor! What an honor! What an honor!
I had the privilege of photographing School on Wheels first ever sunset gala for their 20th Anniversary
at Paradise Cove in Malibu!
Staff, VIP, sponsors and community members came out to support and celebrate this incredible organization!
School on Wheels, Inc. is a non-profit founded in 1993 by Agnes Stevens, a retired teacher.
After reading Jonathan Kozol’s Rachel and her Children, Agnes realized the extent of homelessness in the USA.
She began tutoring homeless kids in a park in Santa Monica, encouraging them to stay in school and participate in school activities.
Today, hundreds of volunteers work one-on-one with children whose homelessness prevents them from getting the academic stability and help they desperately need.
The heart of the School on Wheels’ programs is the volunteer tutors who come from all backgrounds and professions, with a shared goal – to reach out to a child, to teach, to mentor, and assist in their educational life.
You can be one of these volunteers today!
More details about being a volunteer!
I discovered this phenomenal non-profit while in college having such a need and desire to give back.
After a few short phone calls and training session, I was placed with my first student.
Six years later, I am unfortunately no longer a volunteer, but hold this organization very dearly to my heart!
Thank you to each and everyone of you for allowing me to be such an integral part
of documenting such a milestones in your and School on Wheels lives!
I am in love with life and all those in it.
