I have been blessed with yet another one of life’s amazing opportunities! After several years of researching organizations to teach English in Africa, I was presented with the perfect program,
WorldTeach – Semester in Tanzania on Mafia Island.
Several months back I started the application process of preparing college transcripts and resume, composing multiple essays, and requesting two letters of recommendation. I had my interview on a Friday morning in mid-June and on the following Monday evening my application status had been
changed from submitted to ACCEPTED!
In late December 2012/ early January 2013 I will be leaving on a life altering journey to teach English on an island off the coast of Tanzania, specifically Mafia Island for an extensive
semester long program through WorldTeach.
WorldTeach is a non-profit organization that places volunteers as teachers in under-resourced schools in the developing world. Even though I am a volunteer, programs such as these come with great expenses. The cost of my placement, training, air travel, insurance and support for the semester is almost $6,000. I am trying to raise the entire volunteer commitment through extra work hours and a fundraising event, but also need YOUR HELP!
While in Tanzania, I will send a newsletter to all of my sponsors updating them on the progress of my teaching experience and the students involved. To the best of my ability, I will keep an updated blog through Ashley Strong Photography website to share photos and stories. Upon my return, I will send a framed 4x6 photo from my journey to your home as a HUGE thank you!
